Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) Chairman Gen. Jin Yong-sung visited a Marine unit and the Army's Capital Corps Command west of Seoul on Tuesday to check operational readiness in coastal and riverine security, the JCS said.

During his visit to the unit under the Second Marine Division in Gimpo, he stressed the need to "maintain heightened surveillance and vigilance" in the area that stands as a key gateway to the capital, and to immediately respond to any provocations by the enemy, the JCS said in a release.

Jin also visited the Capital Corps Command near Incheon to inspect its operational readiness.

He called for keeping a robust posture in the summer season, underscoring the importance of countering enemy drone threats and responding to illegal fishing activities in the neutral waters of the Han River estuary, the JCS said.
