BENGALURU: A labourer was electrocuted under the Namma Metro viaduct near Trinity Circle Friday afternoon. The deceased, Gurappa, 50, was employed by MR Electricals to execute Metro pillar lighting work between MG Road and Trinity Circle. The incident occurred near pillar 153, outside Trinity station. Gurappa allegedly came in contact with a live electric wire while carrying out earth pit excavation work. According to Halasur police, he was assigned to drill the ground. Unaware of the presence of an underground electrical cable, he got to work, and when the machine came in contact with the live wire, he suffered a fatal electric shock. “We’re yet to receive a complaint from his family members or other labourers. Based on their complaint, we’ll register a case and take action,” a cop said. “During the course of work, the labourer came in contact with an electric source and sustained a shock. He was immediately shifted to the emergency ward of St Philomena’s Hospital for medical treatment. However, he was declared dead on arrival at the hospital,” BMRCL stated, adding that the exact cause of the incident was being ascertained through a detailed investigation.

Woman’s chain jammed Metro door: BMRCL Namma Metro services on Purple Line were briefly disrupted Thursday evening after the doors of a train failed to close at Cubbon Park station, forcing BMRCL to get passengers to disembark and ask them to board subsequent trains. This disrupted train services between 7.36pm and 7.54pm, and also had a ripple effect on services between Whitefield and Challaghatta. A preliminary investigation later found that a commuter’s metal chain had become lodged in the train door guideway, preventing the doors from closing. A detailed inspection found no technical fault in the train or its door systems. BMRCL stated in a press release that all safety protocols were followed before the train was put back into service.

Metro services to begin early at 4amon June 27 To serve people participating in a mega plantation drive and walkathon being organised by Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) Saturday at various locations across the city, BMRCL will commence Metro services at 4am from all terminals on all lines — one hour earlier than the regular Saturday start time. “BMRCL encourages citizens to make use of these special early-morning Metro services and actively participate in the BDA plantation drive and walkathon by utilising this safe, comfortable, and eco-friendly mode of transport. Passengers are requested to plan their journey accordingly,” the press release stated.
