SEOUL, July 21 (Yonhap) -- South Korean defense company LIG Defense & Aerospace (D&A) Co. said Tuesday it will team up with European aerospace giant Airbus to jointly develop next-generation unmanned aircraft systems (UAS).
LIG D&A and Airbus Helicopters signed a memorandum of understanding at the Farnborough International Airshow in Britain to jointly develop next-generation UAS technologies, the Korean company said.
Under the agreement, the two companies will integrate LIG D&A's advanced sensors and weapon systems into Airbus' latest UAS platforms to develop multi-role aerial solutions with enhanced intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, and anti-submarine warfare capabilities.
They also plan to explore ways to improve mission endurance and operational efficiency by applying artificial intelligence across unmanned aircraft systems and their ground control stations.
