23' Hits the crossbar!

D

By David Hirst

A thunderous strike from John Yeboah crashes off the bar as Ecuador go so close to taking the lead!

The closest we've come to a goal.

Then we go straight into a drinks break.

21' Diomande comes to life

D

By David Hirst

Great work down the right side by Diomande for Côte d'Ivoire.

The teenager gets free in the box and whips a dangerous ball into the box but Ecuador clear.

17' Côte d'Ivoire go close

D

By David Hirst

Côte d'Ivoire are getting a foothold into the game.

Elye Wahi had more time than he thought and scuffed his chance.

Really decent chance that!

10' Big miss by Valencia!

D

By David Hirst

Veteran Ecuador striker Enner Valencia has a great chance to score!

He has a clear shot on goal but balloons it over the bar!

Looks like he might have slipped as he shot.

Should really have scored though.

Referee ruled out with injury

D

By David Hirst

English referee Michael Oliver was supposed to be in charge of this game but was ruled out through injury!

He has been replaced by France's Francois Letexier.

2' First chance for Ecuador

D

By David Hirst

Early sighter for Ecuador as Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo shoots from outside the area but drags it wide.

And off we go!

The second game from Group E kicks off!

Looks like a full house

D

By David Hirst

The stands look full, and there's plenty of colour.

A see of yellow and orange as both sets of fans belt out their respective national anthems.

Players out of the sheds

D

By David Hirst

The two teams come out of the tunnel and onto the pitch at Philadelphia Stadium ready for the national anthems.

It's a battle between Africa and South America.

Who will come out on top?

Can Côte d'Ivoire break down Ecuador?

D

By David Hirst

An amazing stat is that Ecuador only conceded five goals in 18 World Cup qualifying games! Crazy.

Ecuador have Piero Hincapie, who just won the Premier League with Arsenal in defence, as well as Willian Pacho, who is a Champions League winner with PSG.

Côte d'Ivoire fans not be outdone

By David Hirst

The Côte d'Ivoire fans are also out in force.

Ecuador fans bring the flair

D

By David Hirst

That South American flair is on full display ahead of kick-off.

Valencia a World Cup legend

D

By David Hirst

Ecuador striker Enner Valencia is one of those players you only ever seem to hear about during the World Cup.

The 36-year-old is playing in his third World Cup and has six goals in six games!

He's had a pretty unremarkable club career, including a dud spell at West Ham, but he comes alive at the World Cup.

All eyes on Yan Diomande

D

By David Hirst

I'm looking forward to watching Yan Diomande play for Côte d'Ivoire.

The 19-year-old has been linked with Liverpool, PSG and Bayern Munich after lighting up the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig.

He's got a real chance to show us what he can do.

Team news: Côte d'Ivoire v Ecuador

Here are the two teams for the next game

Ready for another game

D

By David Hirst

Thanks, Simon, quite the morning — 12 goals in two games!

Will the excitement continue with two more games to come?

Côte d'Ivoire v Ecuador kicks off in about 45 minutes.

Tremendous contest

S

By Simon Smale

That was one of the most anticipated matches of this tournament and you can see why.

A tremendous contest, particularly in the second half.

Japan will never say die and they proved that against a very strong Dutch side that showed its quality.

The Dutch will be spewing at conceding right at the death like that, especially from a corner against those giant centre backs.

It was a very even game to be honest, and a draw is a fair result for mine.

That will do me for the morning, David Hirst will be with you to take over until the close.

Contrasting emotions

A

By Amanda Shalala

What a difference between the two sides. The Japanese players are smiling, high-fiving, and overall looking pretty pleased with snaring a point.

The Netherlands players look frustrated and disappointed in conceding late and letting all three points slip.

Now I'm off to find these A+++ Japan fans, Ultras Nippon. They made this atmosphere.
