“We are deeply saddened by this accident… which, according to preliminary figures, has caused more than 38 injuries and three deaths,” said city mayor Juan Carlos Munoz, as cited by AFP.
A Popayan city official told Colombian newspaper El Espectador that one of the victims was a ten-year-old girl.
The area where the incident occurred has been secured while the electricity company carries out reconnection work due to damage caused by the accident, Colonel Francisco Arboleda of the fire department said, as cited by the newspaper.
