OpenAI Integrates Codex into ChatGPT Mobile App for Cross-Device Code Management

OpenAI is integrating Codex, its desktop AI tool for coding and app operation, into the ChatGPT mobile app. Following Anthropic’s Claude Code surge, OpenAI accelerated development, shutting projects like Sora to focus on enterprise growth and a desktop “superapp.” The recent Codex update enables macOS app operation. Through the ChatGPT app, users can manage Codex tasks on their computer, reviewing outputs, changing models, or starting new tasks remotely. Files and credentials remain on the desktop, with real-time updates (screenshots, terminal output) sent to the mobile app. This feature, now in preview, is available on iOS and Android for all ChatGPT plans, including free and Go plans.
