SA Police are investigating the alleged theft of organ pipes and balustrades from a former church in Adelaide's eastern suburbs.

Between about 12pm on Friday, May 22 and 9:30am on Monday, May 25 police believe the church was broken into on Payneham Road east of Adelaide.

"Significant damage was caused to the building, including to a heritage-listed organ," a spokesperson said.

"Distinctive organ pipes and balustrading were stolen."

The church, St Aidan’s Anglican Church, in Marden, was sold in September 2025 for more than $3 million, according to realcommercial.com.au.

Police are asking anyone who saw or heard any suspicious activity in or around the church to contact Crime Stoppers.

Recent statue theft

The pipe theft comes days after police said they were investigating an alleged theft of a bronze statue from Adelaide's inner north-eastern suburbs.

SA Police said it was stolen from the centre of a fountain in the car park of the Walkerville Council Chambers at about 2am on Friday, May 22.

The suspect was captured on CCTV pushing a wheelbarrow covered in a tarp along Walkerville Terrace.

"The suspect was wearing a high-vis orange hoodie and black trackpants with white stripes down the sides," a police spokesperson said.
