농촌진흥청은 밭작물 재배의 기계화를 촉진하는 '중소규모형 밭농업 기계화 공동영농 모델 확산' 사업을 추진한다고 26일 밝혔다.
밭작물 재배 과정은 크게 경운(흙갈이)·정지(땅 고르기), 파종(씨앗 뿌리기)·정식(모종 심기), 비닐 씌우기, 수확 등 순으로 이뤄진다. 이 중 인력 의존도가 높은 파종·정식, 수확 단계 기계화율이 낮은 상황이다.
국내 밭농업 기계화율 정책 목표(77.5%)를 달성하려면 우리나라 전체 밭농업 농가 중 70% 이상을 차지하는 중·소규모 공동 경영체를 대상으로 기계화 확산이 필요하다.
이번 사업은 재배면적 30∼50㏊의 중·소규모 공동 경영체를 선정해 농진청이 개발한 파종·정식, 수확 단계에서 활용할 수 있는 농기계를 보급하는 것을 목표로 한다.
올해는 충북 청주(감자), 충남 아산(배추), 충남 당진(감자·무), 전남 해남·진도(배추), 경북 상주(콩) 등 6개 지역 5개 작목을 대상으로 사업을 추진한다.
사업 대상 작목 가운데 배추 정식 기계화율은 2024년 기준 0%로 8대 밭작물(마늘, 양파, 배추, 무, 고추, 고구마, 감자, 콩) 파종·정식 평균(18.2%)보다 현저히 낮다.
농진청은 품종별 기계 활용법과 재배 기술 향상을 위한 현장 전문 컨설팅, 정기적 교육 등을 지원할 예정이다.
장기창 농진청 기술보급과장은 "밭농업 기계화 재배단지 조성과 기계화 재배 기술 적용 확대를 통해 노동력 절감 및 생산성 증대 성과를 가시화하겠다"며 "6개 지역을 중심으로 기술 보급을 확대하고 현장 맞춤형 기술지원에 힘쓰겠다"고 말했다.
