Tamil Nadu CM C Joseph Vijay Revokes Astrologer Rathin Pandit's Appointment Amid Backlash
Appointment of Astrologer as OSD Sparks Controversy Over Rationalist Ideology
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay has revoked the appointment of astrologer Rathin Pandit as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) and political wing secretary after facing widespread criticism. The appointment was seen as contradictory to the state’s Dravidian ideology, which promotes rationalism.
Critics, including allies and opposition parties, questioned the need for an astrologer in an official government role. CM Vijay initially stated he would “reconsider certain issues” before ultimately revoking the appointment.
The controversy marks the first major perception battle for Vijay’s new administration.
