Two Red Pandas from Shanghai to Arrive in Taiwan This Weekend

Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an stated that two red pandas from Shanghai will arrive in Taiwan this weekend. He mentioned that the animals are expected to arrive on Saturday but will need to undergo a one-month quarantine period. Chiang expressed that this is a very meaningful development for the zoo, contributing to species breeding and genetic diversity, and that the animal exchange will provide children with a further understanding of the significance of life education. He looks forward to the two red pandas meeting the public at the zoo soon.

Before his session at the city council today, Chiang Wan-an stated in an interview that the red pandas from Shanghai would arrive in Taiwan over the weekend, but a one-month quarantine would still be necessary. He emphasized that this is a very meaningful initiative for the zoo, serving the purposes of species propagation and genetic diversity. Through animal exchange, children can gain a deeper understanding of the meaning of life education, and he anticipates the two red pandas will be able to meet everyone at the zoo as soon as possible.

During a legislative session, Chiang Wan-an was questioned by KMT Councilor Liu Tsai-wei about concerns regarding potential roadblocks for the red pandas. Chiang responded that all parties' reviews have been passed, and there are layered administrative procedures and processes. In addition to local government approvals, the central quarantine procedures have also been reported. After administrative review by all units, the process is currently proceeding smoothly.

Regarding DPP Taipei mayoral candidate Shen Po-yang's previous statement that the Twin Cities Forum is meaningless, Chiang Wan-an stated that this is a concrete outcome. He has held three Twin Cities Forums since taking office. During his first visit, he discussed future needs and the possibility of species breeding. After evaluation by the zoo, the decision was made to introduce red pandas. Taipei has also sent equivalent animals to Shanghai. With all administrative procedures completed, he is pleased that the red pandas will arrive this weekend.

Liu Tsai-wei further inquired whether the names would be decided by public vote and if names like 'Ping Ping An An' (Peaceful and Safe) or 'Gao Gao Xing Xing' (Happy and Joyful) had been considered. Chiang Wan-an replied that they are currently evaluating naming methods and do not rule out any possibilities. He is open to various names and has some time, welcoming suggestions from all sectors.
