UIDAI Launches New Aadhaar App with Enhanced Security Features

The UIDAI's new official Aadhaar App enables users to securely manage their digital identity through face authentication, biometric lock, and QR sharing without handing over a physical copy of the document. The app is set to replace the existing mAadhaar application.

With the introduction of the new app, many Aadhaar holders are wondering whether they need to transfer their details, create a new account or undertake any special process to move from the old mAadhaar app to the new platform.

As the mAadhaar App retires soon, explore the next generation of Aadhaar services designed for convenience and trust.”

The new Aadhaar app offers various services like mobile number update, address update, biometric lock and unlock, selective sharing of Aadhaar verifiable, credential, check aadhaar authentication history, download e-Aadhaar, share contact card, etc.

Do you need to transfer details to the new Aadhaar app?

No. Download the new Aadhaar app and follow the below steps.

How to download the new Aadhaar app and register your name

Step 1: Download the app from the official source mentioned in the social media post.

Step 2: The app will prompt you to send an SMS from your Aadhaar-registered mobile number.

Step 3: Complete face authentication when requested.

Step 4: Set a 6-digit numeric password (e.g., 123456) for security.

Step 5: Aadhaar profiles can be downloaded only on devices with the registered mobile number.

One Aadhaar profile can be activated

Only one Aadhaar profile can be activated per device at a time. Creating a profile on another device will deactivate and delete the profile from the previous device whenever any operation is attempted.

Features of the new Aadhaar app

1. Multi profile

Aadhaar holders can include up to five profiles in their profile section.

2. Biometric locking/unlocking

This feature secures biometric authentication by locking biometric data. Once enabled, biometrics remain locked until the Aadhaar holder temporarily unlocks or disables the system.

3. Update of profile

The app displays updated Aadhaar profile data after a successful update request.

4. Sharing QR codes and verifiable credentials

Users can share their Aadhaar data for paperless verification.

5. Offline access

The app can help a person scan the QR code on their Aadhaar card for offline verification.

Can name, gender, email and DOB be updated through the new Aadhaar app?

These updates are not available on this app. To update such details, one should visit the nearest Aadhaar seva kendra. In the future, these services may be made available in the Aadhaar App, as per FAQs on the app.
