Reve 2.0 AI Image Model: A Control-First Approach Challenges Giants

Reve's new AI image model, Reve 2.0, ranks #2 on the Arena leaderboard. It uses a unique 'layout' system for structured, editable image descriptions, offering fine-grained control and high-resolution output at a fraction of the cost of competitors. Tested for photorealism, spatial awareness, text rendering, and more, it shows strengths in control and cost-effectiveness, though it may not match the absolute accuracy of larger models in all areas.

GPT Image 2 Dominates AI Image Generation With Record Leaderboard Lead

OpenAI launched GPT Image 2 with the largest ever Image Arena lead of 242 points, beating Google Nano Banana 2. Running on the GPT-5.4 backbone with native reasoning architecture, it achieves 99% character-level accuracy across multiple scripts and supports 4K resolution with batch consistency. Testing across eight categories shows GPT Image 2 winning realism, classical art, lettering, spatial awareness, and image editing, while Nano Banana 2 excels in anime illustration and complex prompt handling. Pricing undercuts Nano Banana 2 at $30 versus $60 per million output tokens.

ComfyUI Raises $30M at $500M Valuation to Expand Node-Based AI Creative Tools

ComfyUI, a startup providing node-based workflow tools for controlling AI diffusion models, raised $30 million in funding at a $500 million valuation. Led by Craft Ventures with participation from Pace Capital, Chemistry, and TruArrow, the company evolved from a 2023 open-source project into a formal startup. Co-founder and CEO Yoland Yan noted that prompt-based AI tools like Midjourney only achieve 60-80% accuracy, requiring the 'slot machine' approach for refinements. The platform claims over 4 million users among creative professionals in VFX, animation, advertising, and industrial design.

Reform UK faces AI image controversy after critics spot telltale signs in campaign photo

Reform UK is facing controversy after Richard Tice posted a campaign photo that experts and social media users identified as likely AI-generated or heavily edited. Critics pointed to multiple telltale signs including mangled fingers, garbled text on signs reading 'Get Stuppence Out' instead of 'Get Starmer Out', blurred faces, unnaturally perfect geometric patterns, and a floating sign. Reform UK denied the image is AI-generated, with a spokesperson stating the photograph is real but was 'slightly edited using AI, mainly to increase the brightness.'

We all share blame for the decline of our high streets | Brief letters

Buying habits | Trump’s messiah complex | Team Pope Leo XIV | Leaning towers | Mandelson vettingI sympathise with people mourning the demise of once‑loved stores and the pitiful state of their high streets (Wildings in Newport, Wales: the grand department store that became an illicit cannabis farm, 16 April). This is not the fault of the government, but rather a result of changing consumer habits. Perhaps we are all guilty. These shops are not charities, there to adorn the public realm. They are businesses and if people don’t shop there they will close. All that any government – national or local – can do is to help a well-designed shrinking of the retail estate by encouraging changes of use.Gillian WilliamsonLondon• The weirdest aspect of Donald Trump’s messiah complex cartoon (Trump deletes post with AI image of himself as Jesus-like figure after outcry, 13 April) is that the increasingly deranged, thin-skinned president appears to be trying to cure his long-time, eminently sane and extremely funny critic Jon Stewart.Jonathan WheelerBirstall, Leicester Continue reading...
