El Niño Officially Returns: NOAA Confirms Development in Pacific
The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has officially announced the development of El Niño in the tropical Pacific Ocean. This warming of surface waters occurs every 2-7 years and can last 9-12 months, influencing global weather patterns. The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) anticipates El Niño may intensify to moderate or strong levels by autumn, potentially making 2027 the warmest year on record.
