Russia has suspended its participation in the New START Treaty, stating it had all grounds to believe US policy was aimed at undermining Russia's national security. Russian Ambassador at Large Andrey Belousov announced the suspension at the 11th NPT Review Conference, accusing Washington of seriously violating the document's pivotal provisions on quantitative restrictions on strategic weapons. He recalled that President Putin had in September 2025 proposed extending the treaty's restrictions for one more year.
