Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yury Trutnev sees strong prospects for cooperation between Russia's Far East and China in energy, agriculture, and tourism. He noted that new tourist complexes are being built in scenic Russian locations, and he was inspired by China's hiking trail model.
Russia plans to invest over 30 trillion rubles ($396 billion) in its Arctic zone over the next ten years, Deputy Prime Minister Yury Trutnev announced at a cabinet meeting chaired by President Vladimir Putin. Trutnev highlighted that thanks to decisions made in 2020, the Arctic now offers the world's largest preferential investment zone covering 5 million square kilometers. Over the past five years, more than 1,000 new projects with state support have been launched in the Russian Arctic Zone.
Cargo traffic along Russia's Northern Sea Route has increased from 4 to nearly 38 million tons over the past decade, Deputy Prime Minister Yury Trutnev reported. Russia plans to build four more nuclear-powered icebreakers, at least 10 rescue vessels, and 12 satellites by 2035 to further develop theArctic shipping route.
Russian President Vladimir Putin will chair a government video conference on Thursday to discuss development of the Arctic zone and the Transarctic Transport Corridor. The comprehensive project, being prepared by the Maritime Board and government, aims to integrate development of Russia's Arctic and Far East, grow cargo base, and expand domestic and international transportation. The project will be presented by end of April and reviewed with Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin in June 2026.
