£50m Northern Ireland Defence Growth Deal to Create Hundreds of Jobs
The UK government has launched a £50m Northern Ireland Defence Growth Deal to boost the region's defence sector, creating hundreds of jobs. The collaboration between the Ministry of Defence, local companies, and Queen's University Belfast aims to develop skills in engineering and technology. Northern Ireland currently has the second-lowest defence procurement spending in the UK at £271m in 2024, up from under £100m in 2020, largely due to NLAW missile production for Ukraine at Thales' east Belfast factory.
