Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, D-Fla., resigned from Congress on Tuesday just before the House Ethics Committee was set to meet on potential punishment, including expulsion. She faces federal charges alleging she and her brother stole $5 million in federal disaster funds related to COVID-19 vaccinations. The Ethics Committee found she used some funds for her first congressional campaign. She denies the allegations and called the process a "witch hunt." This marks the third April resignation, following Reps. Eric Swalwell and Tony Gonzales. Republicans now hold a 218-213 majority with four open seats.
