Singapore's Overqualified Workforce Grows as Workers Prioritise Job Stability Over Career Status
A survey by Singapore's manpower ministry shows 19.4% of the resident workforce had academic qualifications exceeding their job requirements in 2025, up from 16.3% in 2015. About 90% of these overqualified workers are voluntarily overqualified, citing job stability, skill utilisation and interesting work as top reasons. Analysts say the trend reflects shifting worker priorities rather than labour-market mismatch.
