The junta claims to have transferred her from prison to house arrest, but Aris says the family has no proof this is true. He has had almost no contact with his mother since her arrest – just one censored letter received nearly three years ago. His father Michael Aris died in 1999 while she was incarcerated, with the military denying him a visa for a final visit.
