Pakistani Court Sentences Civil Rights Activists to Life Imprisonment
A Pakistani anti-terrorism court sentenced civil rights activists Mahrang Baloch and Sibghatullah Shahji to life imprisonment for the killing of a paramilitary soldier during a July 2024 protest in Gwadar. The verdict, which the activists deny and plan to appeal, has drawn sharp criticism from human rights organizations, who view it as a suppression of fundamental rights advocacy in Balochistan.
