An exceptionally preserved marsupial lion skeleton, extinct for tens of thousands of years, was discovered in a Nullarbor Plain cave. Dating suggests the cave has been undisturbed for over four million years, offering insights into ancient ecosystems and apex predators.
The mystery surrounding Baby Auckland, whose skeleton was found wrapped in a 1910 newspaper beneath floorboards during a house renovation in July 2024, has deepened after carbon dating suggested he lived between 1726 and 1812 - predating both the newspaper and the building. Despite DNA testing that didn't match potential relatives, the detective leading the investigation believes the baby lived and died in 1910. The infant was finally laid to rest in Bishop Auckland cemetery during a simple 10-minute ceremony, with detectives and local residents paying their respects.
