3QT: Richmond 8.10 (58) leads Essendon 6.10 (46)
H By Henry Hanson
This has turned into a real grind at the MCG, with the teams combining for two goals between HT and 3QT.
The Tigers really took their feet of the gas in that third quarter and see their lead cut to just 12 points.
Having lost three of their most experienced players to injury during the first half, the Bombers have done excellently well to stay in this one.
Nate Caddy, particularly, has been impressive inside 50, smacking two majors and hitting the post.
He will be key to Essendon's hopes of an unlikely, inspirational final-term fightback.
Essendon won't go away just yet!
H By Henry Hanson
It's a massive push from the Bombers.
Nate Caddy almost takes a hanger in the 50 and the ball ends in the hands of Archer May, who slots one from the right.
Richmond's lead cut to 13 points.
HT: St Kilda 7.3 (45) leads Fremantle 7.2 (44)
D By Dean Bilton
The Freo midfield began to get on top in that second quarter and territory followed. More importantly, those three big forwards - Treacy, Voss and Amiss - are looking dominant inside 50. Get enough ball down there and you would think Freo would have too much.
But the Saints aren't taking a backward step. They're matching the Dockers around the ball and are finding their own avenues to goal.
We've got a good one in the west.
Freddy with the bomb! Michael Frederick sends it home
D By Dean Bilton
With 30 seconds left on the clock, Frederick launched a hopeful high snap on his left boot and hoped for the best.
The crowd willed it home, carrying it beyond the line and between the sticks. It's a one-point game, and it feels like it too.
Tigers controlling things at the 'G
H By Henry Hanson
Things are really drifting at the MCG, with Richmond's lead hovering around 20 and both teams' pressure down in the low 100s.
The Tigers are happy to just chip the ball around right now, making use of their well-stocked interchange bench as the undermanned Bombers huff and puff.
Mason Wood has two and is making a difference
D By Dean Bilton
He's looking like St Kilda's most dangerous forward at the moment. Wood is too tall for McVee when the ball is in the air and he is clunking his marks tonight.
Four minutes to play until half-time and St Kilda lead it by eight.
Mattaes Phillipou goals from the rushed behind free kick
D By Dean Bilton
Karl Worner had plenty of time to dispose of that ball before he decided to rush it through, which is why the free was paid despite him being within the goalsquare and with Phillipou nearby.
Phillipou was quick to take and convert the free kick to put the Saints back in front.
Two posters at the 'G
H By Henry Hanson
Richmond misses the opportunity to take a game-high 26-point lead, with Tom Lynch finding the post from his set-shot.
Nate Caddy follows suit for the Bombers, leathering one from the edge of the arc and to the left.
Richmond by 20 halfway through the second quarter.
Meanwhile, we're shown vision of Andy McGrath, who broke his jaw earlier on this evening, hopping into an ambulance out the back of the stadium.
Pat Voss puts Freo in front!
D By Dean Bilton
End to end footy from Freo, flooding forward through handball, but Reid's kick didn't really help Voss out a whole lot.
Didn't matter though. Voss just monstered Wilkie off the ball, scooped up the loose ball and dribbled through his second. The big fella is up and about and loving this contest with a truly elite defender in Wilkie.
Make that three for Jye Amiss!
D By Dean Bilton
He's running Silvagni ragged at the moment. The Saints defender had no choice but to chop an arm in that contest at the expense of a free kick.
Amiss's radar is in tonight. He's got three straight and the Dockers are coming.
Short slots in his mileston game
H By Henry Hanson
We're back underway at the 'G.
The undermanned Bombers, with only a couple interchanges at their disposal after a slew of first-half injuries, face a 15-point deficit as the third quarter begins.
And that quickly becomes 21, as Jayden Short, playing his 200th game, dances through a couple challenges and slots one for the Tigers.
Jye Amiss kicks his second for the Dockers
D By Dean Bilton
Quick response for Freo. Amiss leads up, Bolton wobbles one onto his chest and the big man drills his set shot from 50.
Hell of a battle down there between the big Freo forwards and the big St Kilda defenders. Dockers probably taking the honours so far.
Mattaes Phillipou with a fine finish on the run
D By Dean Bilton
Some really impressive stuff from the Saints there. First the pressure of Banfield to force the error out of Erasmus, then the quick hands of Wilson to release Phillipou.
The good work was finished by the Saints young gun, who slotted on his left from 45. Saints get the first of the second.
QT: St Kilda 4.1 (25) leads Fremantle 3.1 (19)
D By Dean Bilton
Encouraging stuff from the Saints, who have brought real heat to this one. Had they been a little more efficient in front of goal the Dockers might have really had something to think about at the first change,
Freo won't be panicking, and the do indeed look very dangerous going forward. Just need the midfield to get to work.
Mason Wood with the quick response from the Saints
D By Dean Bilton
We weren't level for long! Brilliant clearance work from the Saints and Hall, and Wood found himself up against the smaller McVee in the air.
Wood took the mark and quickly played on to convert from the goal line. Saints by a goal.
Pat Voss levels things up for Freo
D By Dean Bilton
Cal Wilkie is trying is absolute hardest not to lose his head at that decision. He was judged to have been holding Voss, even though he was in the better position and Voss had hold of his arm. It's a poor call, but one Voss is delighted to accept.
Voss converts from 15 out and we're all tied up late in the first.
Liam Henry with one against his former mob!
D By Dean Bilton
Judd McVee had the chance to intercept that ball but cannoned into his own teammate and spilled the beans. Henry was quick to mop up and dribble home St Kilda's third.
A few boos from the Freo fans as Henry takes particular delight in that one. No love lost.
HT: Richmond 7.7 (49) leads Essendon 5.4 (34)
H By Henry Hanson
The Bombers fought valiantly for much of that quarter, but were ultimately outrun by the Tigers.
Richmond kick the final two goals of the half to take a 15-point lead to the main break.
Medically speaking, it was a nightmare two quarters of football for Essendon.
Sam Durham was the first to leave the match, copping a knee to the head in the opening exchanges.
Matt Guelfi's night was ended by a hamstring injury not long after, before Andy McGrath broke his jaw.
Jye Caldwell also picked up a knock, but he limps on - for now, anyway.
A very, very tough half ahead for the battered Bombers.
