DOWNFIELD FREE KICK!

The Dockers are in the lead!
It's a 100m turnover!
3QT: Sydney Swans 7.12 (54) lead Fremantle Dockers 6.16 (52)

I've watched a lot of footy this year and that might just have been the most entertaining quarter of the lot of it.
It all started with the impeccable Jordan Clark launching a long major after 45 seconds to end Freo's goal drought, and it just got better from there.
Charlie Curnow suddenly cut loose and kicked three goals in the blink of an eye, including a cracking launch from just inside the boundary outside 50, but then Shai Bolton, Patrick Voss and Josh Treacy all answered with their own hoofs to almost make it advantage Freo at the end of a pulsating quarter.
After a dominant half, Tom Papley went missing without a touch for the Swans, and they really felt it across half forward.
Errol Gulden (25) and Murphy Reid (23) lead the disposal count.
Strap yourselves in, this feels like it's going to be a ripping conclusion.
Dockers within a kick!
K
By Kyle Pollard
There's less than a minute left in the term and the Dockers are within a kick!
It's Murphy Reid who sets it up down the field, and it's Jye Amiss who clunks the contested the mark directly in front about 20m out!
He snaps the goal! What a quarter for the Dockers!
Dudley called for holding it!
K
By Kyle Pollard
Isaiah Dudley is done for holding the ball about 30m out directly in front of the Dockers goals ... oof, it's a tight one. He almost went 360 in the tackle before getting rid of it so it's probably a free kick.
Andrew Brayshaw then kicks it through the goals after the free. It should be 50m to the Swans but it's not.
Either way the Dockers fans are furious at the call.
Another taunt has entered the game!
K
By Kyle Pollard
This time it's against the Swans!
Jye Amiss pushes Dane Rampe in the back and gives away the free kick. As he goes to hand the ball back to Rampe, Rampe completely loses his head and gives Amiss a clip over the top of the old bonce.
Incredibly silly.
Amiss misses the shot on goal.
HOW GOOD IS FOOTBALL
K
By Kyle Pollard
This is one of the great quarters!
There's a hurried kick out of a bounce on the wing (a bounce that should have probably been a Swans free kick for holding the ball) and a Swans player gets done by the bounce of the Sherrin.
Bolton swoops on it, almost gets taken out by a teammate, speeds off and kicks a long launch! Stunning!
Voss gets one back for the Dockers!
K
By Kyle Pollard
It's a fair dinkum shootout in the west.
Patrick Voss has a fresh guernsey on and a fresh outlook on life, and he gets on the end of a nice F50 lead for a big old chest mark.
His kick is a delight and the Prancing Pony punches the air like the air said something horrible about a loved one.
Boy oh boy do we have a game here.
Curnow is lighting up this quarter!
K
By Kyle Pollard
We're not even six minutes in and Charlie Curnow has three majors already!
He takes another lovely contested mark just inside the arc on a tough angle, and the kick is an absolute beauty!
This is rolled gold from the former Blues spearhead.
Treacy kicks another major!
K
By Kyle Pollard
I cannot keep up people, how did people live blog the footy in the 1990s when both teams kicked about 40 goals each*?
This time Treacy gets a free kick for a hold in the goalsquare and quickly goes back and kicks the major!
(*Please don't answer that).
CURNOW LAUNCHES A BOMB
K
By Kyle Pollard
I'm sorry I'm using caps but I have no choice!
Charlie Curnow has absolutely launched from about 60m out on the angle and the Sherrin bounces through for the goal!
This is awesome footy!
Treacy kicks a LONG bomb
K
By Kyle Pollard
Oh the Dockers can't miss now! It's a huge launch from the big forward Josh Treacy and Freo get one back.
He was only in range due to a 50m penalty after no Swans stood the mark at halfback. Don't love the rule, but it is the rule.
Swamp with the stat

Fremantle's goalless first half with 11 behinds was the equal-third worst kicking performance in VFL/AFL history.
Curnow answers straight back!
K
By Kyle Pollard
This time it's a big long launch from Chad Warner from outside 50 and it looks for all money to be flying out of bounds.
But Charlie Curnow's paws reach out desperately and the Sherrin just sticks! Awesome mark running back with the ball!
Curnow hooks it around the corner and that hurts Freo.
FREO HAS A GOAL
K
By Kyle Pollard
And of course it's Jordan Clark that kicks it!
Clark launches from outside 50 after a lovely build up play and BOOM the Dockers have a major!
It took 45 seconds!
New job on the horizon
K
By Kyle Pollard
Hey Kyle, could you pop down to the sheds and have a word with the Freo players please - nothing too harsh, just remind them that between the high goal posts is worth more...
- Mike
Mike, if there was one thing I could do while playing juniors at the mighty Kolora-Noorat Power, it was kick straight.
I just couldn't get the ball though.
The Dockers would do well not to listen to me.
The Voss free kick
K
By Kyle Pollard
That free kick against Voss at the end of the second quarter was the biggest BS call I may have ever seen. Just call it fair!
- Dom
Michael Frederick had just taken an intercept mark about 65m out when the play was reversed due to a free kick against Patrick Voss behind the play.
I'll be honest, I haven't seen what happened. All players looked confused. The umpire said Voss had swung his Swans opponent to the ground. No replay was available.
Free kick count stands at 13-12 in favour of the Swans.
HT: Sydney Swans 4.9 (33) lead Fremantle Dockers 0.11 (11)
K
By Kyle Pollard
Yes, you read that right. The Dockers go into halftime goalless, and with 11 behinds to their scorecard.
That's just the second goalless half for the Dockers on record under coach Justin Longmuir.
The pressure from Sydney was elite throughout the first half of the quarter, with almost zero space for the Dockers to work.
But as reader Melza said, that pressure level could not be maintained, and Fremantle started to find targets inside 50 and on the run hitting into the attacking arc ... but they just couldn't convert.
Tom Papley and Chad Warner continue to looks dangerous for the Swans, while Jordan Clark is providing dash for the Dockers and skipper Alex Pearce is blanketing Charlie Curnow.
Errol Gulden and Clark (17 touches each) lead the disposals.
We saw this from Fremantle a few weeks ago when they were 3.11 at one point against the Cats, before going on to win by nine points.
Can they do it again?
The phone is gone!
K
By Kyle Pollard
Justin Longmuir has done the old phone smash that Chris Scott brought back into vogue last week!
Luckily the stadium is sponsored by a phone provider. No, not the one that's not very good at fixing phones right now.
Questions ouvertes
- Will the Dockers' improved third-quarter performance continue?
- How will the controversial umpiring calls affect the final result?
