Andhra Pradesh employees in state PSUs, Gurukul schools, and welfare societies will now retire at 62, matching state government staff. Additionally, around 11,000 employees appointed before September 2004 will transition from the Contributory Pension Scheme to the Old Pension Scheme. This move aims to enhance post-retirement financial and social security for these workers, with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu assuring support for employee interests.

The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet on Tuesday approved raising the retirement age of employees working in state public sector undertakings (PSUs), Gurukul schools and welfare societies from 60 to 62 years, bringing them on par with state government employees.

The decision will apply to employees and teachers working in PSUs, SC, ST, BC and Minority Welfare Societies, as well as Gurukul educational institutions.

In another key decision benefiting government employees, the Cabinet approved extending the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) to employees appointed through various recruitment notifications issued before September 2004.

With the approval, around 11,000 employees will be shifted from the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) to the Old Pension Scheme, the government said.

The state government said the move would provide greater financial and social security to employees after retirement.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said the coalition government would stand by employees and safeguard their interests.

The decisions were taken at a meeting of the State Cabinet held in Amaravati. (With inputs from PTI)
