Arizona Retirement Community to Get Senior-Focused Cannabis Kiosk

An Arizona retirement community is getting a senior-focused cannabis kiosk, giving residents an easier way to purchase marijuana products without traveling to a dispensary.

Cannabis brand Life Is Chill and cannabis technology company LoveBud will install the kiosk at Sun Lakes Country Club in Chandler on August 19, allowing seniors to learn about and order cannabis products for home delivery, a spokesperson told Marijuana Moment.

The active-adult 55+ community has about 2,000 residents, with other amenities including an 18-hole executive golf course, heated pools and a community clubhouse. The kiosk will also be available to more than 12,000 residents in neighboring sister communities, according to a news release.

The companies say the kiosk's "Easy Mode" was designed specifically for older adults, featuring large, easy-to-read navigation buttons, a simplified ordering process and a curated selection of cannabis products. The goal is to make purchasing marijuana more accessible for seniors who may not be comfortable using smartphone apps or navigating traditional online dispensary menus.

“At Sun Lakes Country Club, our goal is to provide our members with access to trusted resources that support their overall health and well-being,” Joe Rizzo, the facility’s director of food and beverage, said in a statement. “By partnering with organizations like Life Is Chill, we’re giving our community another opportunity to learn about all of the options available to them. Whether members ultimately choose to utilize these services or not, we believe having access to reliable information empowers them to make informed decisions about their own health.”

To encourage residents to use the kiosk, the companies will also offer a weekly promotion that includes free home delivery, waiving the usual delivery fee for orders placed that day.

Dr. Dana Lillestol, senior education advocate for Life Is Chill, said the kiosk is part of the company's effort to make cannabis education and access easier for older adults.

"From the beginning, our goal has been to simplify the cannabis experience for seniors. Through our relationship with the Sun Lakes communities, we saw an opportunity to bring together trusted products, personalized guidance, and technology that's genuinely easy to use. Residents shouldn't have to sort through hundreds of products just to find what works for them. This curated approach helps remove that uncertainty while making cannabis more accessible to an entire community."

Recreational marijuana became legal in Arizona in 2020, with retail sales allowed in 2022, but not everyone is riding the high. State lawmakers considered a bill this year that would have penalized “excessive” marijuana smoke or odors, but it passed the Senate and failed in the House.

A separate effort to repeal recreational marijuana legalization was abandoned after the campaign leader, Sean Noble, said he had changed his views on the industry’s risks to children.
