NEW DELHI: The prices of commercial Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders have been reduced for the second consecutive month, with fresh cuts taking effect from Saturday, August 1. The move is expected to provide some relief to businesses such as restaurants, hotels, catering services and other commercial establishments that rely heavily on LPG for daily operations.

The price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder has been reduced by Rs 202 in Delhi and Rs 209 in Kolkata, sources said. Following the latest revision, a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder will cost Rs 2,872.50 in Kolkata. Meanwhile, for Delhi, it would mean that price comes down to Rs 2,728.

There has been no change in the price of domestic LPG cylinders. The latest cut follows a reduction announced on July 1, when oil marketing companies slashed the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder by Rs 183.50, bringing the retail price in Delhi down to Rs 2,930 per cylinder.

At the same time, the price of the 5-kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinder was reduced by Rs 13, taking its retail price in Delhi to Rs 808.50.

Commercial LPG prices have witnessed multiple revisions this year. In June, oil marketing companies increased the price of a 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder by Rs 29, raising the retail price in Delhi to Rs 942 from Rs 913.

Earlier, on March 7, oil companies had raised domestic LPG prices by Rs 60 per cylinder, citing disruptions in global energy markets linked to the conflict in West Asia.

Commercial LPG prices were also revised upward in April, when oil marketing companies increased the price of 19-kg commercial cylinders by Rs 195.50 across metropolitan cities amid heightened geopolitical tensions in West Asia.

Following that revision, the retail price of a commercial cylinder stood at Rs 2,208 in Kolkata, Rs 2,031 in Mumbai, and Rs 2,246.50 in Chennai.

The year began with another hike. Effective January 1, oil marketing companies increased the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder by Rs 111, taking the retail price in Delhi to Rs 1,691.50.

The price of the 5-kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinder was also raised by Rs 27.

The latest reduction in commercial LPG prices is significant for sectors that depend heavily on these cylinders, including eateries, catering services, hotels and small businesses, where cooking fuel constitutes a substantial share of operating expenses.

Domestic consumers, however, will see no change in LPG prices under the latest revision.

India to Resume Subsidized Bharat Atta and Rice Sales Ahead of Festival Season

India's Ministry of Consumer Affairs is restarting subsidized Bharat Atta and Rice sales, allocating 50,000 tonnes of wheat and 300,000 tonnes of rice, to mitigate price increases (6-7% for Atta in one month) and El Nino impacts before the festival season. Bharat Rice will initially cost ₹35/kg, rising to ₹36/kg from November 1, while Bharat Atta is fixed at ₹32/kg for 2026-27.
