Couple Severely Injured in Pitbull Attack in Patiala

A couple sustained severe injuries after a pitbull attacked them while inspecting a house.

PATIALA: A couple suffered multiple injuries after they were allegedly attacked by a pitbull in Patiala’s Ghuman Nagar area, with purported CCTV footage of the incident circulating on social media.

The attack took place on Tuesday evening when Ankit Sabharwal and his wife Shifali had gone to Ghuman Nagar with a property dealer to inspect a house they were considering renting.

According to Ankit, the pitbull rushed out as soon as the house gate was opened and attacked his wife. The dog allegedly mauled her arm and other parts of her body, leaving her with deep injuries that required surgery. She is undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

Ankit also suffered deep bite wounds on his legs and back while attempting to rescue his wife. The purported CCTV footage shows the dog attacking the couple as nearby residents try to fend it off with sticks. A woman is seen coming out of the house with a stick, but is unable to stop the animal. Later, two to three more people approach with sticks and manage to pull the injured couple away.

Ankit said police have been informed and sought action against those responsible for allegedly allowing the dog to roam freely. The incident has renewed concerns over dog attacks in Patiala. On August 9, a girl was allegedly mauled by a stray dog while passing through the Guru Nanak Nagar area. Patiala Mayor Kundan Gogia said keeping aggressive dog breeds as pets would be banned in the city.

Gogia said the issue would be taken up at a House meeting of the municipal corporation, where a special resolution on the matter may be considered.
