2021年,张志飞团队曾在陕南镇巴及南澳大利亚发现原始蜂巢虫化石,首次将苔藓动物起源推进至寒武纪早期,但因缺乏矿化骨骼证据受到部分质疑。团队持续多年在华南多个寒武纪早期剖面开展系统野外工作,终获完美化石证据回应争议。
