A doctor at Tuen Mun Hospital in Hong Kong has been fired for conducting an unauthorised procedure on a patient, in an incident linked to his medical intern girlfriend who was earlier dismissed and arrested for allegedly accessing patient data without permission.
The Hospital Authority (HA) said on Monday evening that an investigation found the resident doctor had acted dishonestly and committed serious misconduct, in breach of professional ethics and integrity.
The resident doctor was involved in conducting an unauthorised examination on a patient at Ruttonjee Hospital in Wan Chai, the authority said, adding that it “unequivocally condemned” the conduct in question.
“The incident is linked to an intern doctor who was previously dismissed for a series of serious misconduct,” it said.
The case would be referred to the Medical Council for follow-up action, it added.
“The HA has absolutely zero tolerance for any form of behaviour that undermines the professional conduct of doctors,” it said.
“The HA will not permit any doctor who fails to meet the relevant requirements to practise in public hospitals, in order to safeguard patient safety.”
