India has no proposal at present to increase retail fuel prices, a senior government official said, offering reassurance amid recent geopolitical developments in West Asia.

Speaking at an inter-ministerial briefing on the evolving situation in the region, Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, said there is currently no plan to revise petrol and diesel prices.

“LPG, petroleum and diesel are available in sufficient amount and the prices have not increased, so please do not panic,” Sharma said, underscoring that supplies remain adequate.

She added that while imports of crude, LPG and PNG have been impacted due to the West Asia crisis, the government has taken steps to minimise disruption for domestic consumers. “Accordingly, 100 per cent supply has been ensured for domestic LPG consumers, domestic PNG consumers and CNG transport,” she said.

Commercial LPG supply has been restored to about 70 per cent, with priority being given to hospitals and educational institutions. Key sectors such as pharmaceuticals, steel, seeds and agriculture are also being prioritised, she added. The supply of 5 kg FTL cylinders for migrant labour has nearly doubled.

The clarification comes at a time when global energy markets are closely tracking tensions in West Asia, a key oil-producing region, which often have a bearing on crude prices and domestic fuel rates. Officials said the government continues to closely monitor the situation while maintaining supply stability.

Three Saudi oil tankers rerouted in the Red Sea due to Houthi blockade, raising global supply concerns, though non-Saudi tankers to India are unaffected. India is sourcing oil from alternative locations like Fujairah.

US Section 301 Tariff: Cost Burden and Opportunity for Indian Exporters

The US Section 301 tariff, imposing a 10% duty on Indian goods, presents both cost challenges and unique opportunities for Indian exporters. While increasing landed costs, it offers a competitive edge as rival nations face higher 12.5% tariffs, reflecting US recognition of India's anti-forced labor efforts. FIEO advises product-specific evaluation and proactive measures.
