Pourquoi c'est important

The Madhya Pradesh government offers a Housing Assistance Scheme to support economically disadvantaged Scheduled Tribe (ST) students pursuing higher education away from home when government hostels are unavailable.

Taille de police

For many students pursuing higher education away from home, accommodation costs can become a major financial burden, particularly for those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

To help ease this expense, the Madhya Pradesh government offers the Housing Assistance Scheme, which provides financial support to eligible Scheduled Tribe (ST) students studying outside their hometown where government hostel facilities are unavailable.

The scheme, implemented by the Tribal Welfare Department, aims to ensure that a lack of affordable accommodation does not become a barrier to higher education.

Under the scheme, eligible students receive a monthly housing allowance based on the location of their educational institution. Students studying in a divisional headquarters are eligible for Rs 2,000 per month, those in a district headquarters receive Rs 1,250 per month, while students studying in a tehsil or development block headquarters are entitled to Rs 1,000 per month.

Who is eligible?

To avail of the scheme, an applicant must:

Be a native of Madhya Pradesh.

Belong to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category.

Have passed Class 12 from a recognised government or private institution.

Be regularly admitted to a graduate, diploma, technical or paramedical course.

Be studying outside their hometown.

Not have been allotted accommodation in a government hostel.

Be a native of Madhya Pradesh.

Applicants are required to submit:

Passport-size photograph

Aadhaar card

Madhya Pradesh domicile certificate

Caste certificate

Previous class marksheet/passing certificate

Samagra ID

Bank account details or passbook

Any other documents prescribed by the department

How to apply

Students can apply online through the MPTAAS (Madhya Pradesh Tribal Affairs Automation System) portal or submit an offline application through the Hostel Superintendent, Block Education Officer, Principal, District Coordinator or Assistant Commissioner.

Applicants must fill in the prescribed form, upload or attach the required documents and submit the application to the concerned authority. After verification by the institution and department, the approved financial assistance is transferred directly to the student's bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

A similar scheme for SC students

Madhya Pradesh also runs the Scheduled Caste Boys/Girls Housing Assistance Scheme, which provides monthly rental assistance to eligible Scheduled Caste (SC) students pursuing higher education outside their native town or village.

While both schemes offer housing assistance of up to Rs 2,000 per month, depending on the student's place of study, their eligibility criteria differ. The ST Housing Assistance Scheme is meant for Scheduled Tribe students who do not have access to government hostel facilities. The SC scheme, on the other hand, is available only to Scheduled Caste college students who meet the income criteria prescribed under the Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme and are studying away from their hometown.

Both schemes are implemented by the Madhya Pradesh government to reduce accommodation costs for students from socially disadvantaged communities and enable them to continue higher education.
