A man was arrested in Chhattisgarh’s Korea district on Thursday for allegedly brutally assaulting his wife, tonsuring her head and forcing her to drink his urine.

Reportedly, the said incident took place on Sunday in Pandopara village. However, an FIR was registered only after purported videos of the incident surfaced on social media, officials said.

The woman, in her mid-30s, lodged a complaint on Monday alleging that her husband, identified as Jitendra Ghasiya, assaulted her severely while under the influence of alcohol, news agency PTI reported.

Police informed that a case has been registered under Sections 85 (cruelty by husband or relatives), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 296 (obscene acts) and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), officials said.

Korea in-charge superintendent of police Suresha Choubey said that initially, the victim did not disclose the full details of the assault. After videos of the incident surfaced online on Thursday and the sequence of events became clear, Section 123 of the BNS (related to administering a harmful, intoxicating or stupefying substance with intent to cause harm) was added to the case.

The woman had a love marriage with Ghasiya around 15 years ago and that they have four children, all of whom live with him, PTI reported.

She alleged that Ghasiya suspected her character and abandoned her about a year ago, after which she began staying with an acquaintance.

According to the woman, the accused arrived at her place on Sunday and attacked her.

“He tied my hands and legs, assaulted me and abused me. He first cut my hair with scissors and then shaved my head with a blade. He forcibly poured urine into my mouth and also poured a child’s urine on me. He threatened to burn me alive,” she alleged.

Further investigation into the case is currently underway, officials said. (With agency inputs)
