Mercedes-Benz India on Thursday launched the Mercedes-AMG E 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+, bringing the country's first electrified AMG E-Class to Indian buyers as the luxury carmaker continues to expand its high-performance portfolio with hybrid technology.

Built on the E-Class, one of Mercedes-Benz's longest-running nameplates in India, the new AMG model combines the brand's performance-focused engineering with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, giving buyers the option of an all-electric commute while retaining the driving dynamics the AMG badge is known for.

Mercedes-AMG E 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+: Engine, performance and electric range

Under the hood, the Mercedes-AMG E 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+ is powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder petrol engine paired with a 120 kW electric motor, producing a combined output of 585 hp and 750 Nm of torque. With the RACE START function activated, peak power rises to 612 hp, allowing the sedan to sprint from 0-100 kmph in 3.8 seconds.

The plug-in hybrid setup is backed by a 28.6 kWh battery, enabling an electric-only driving range of over 100 km (WLTP) and speeds of up to 140 kmph in EV mode. Mercedes-Benz said the hybrid system is designed to let customers use the car as an everyday electric commuter while delivering track-ready performance when required.

The AMG E 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+ features AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension, AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive, active rear-axle steering, and multiple drive modes, including dedicated Electric and Battery Hold settings. The AMG DYNAMIC PLUS package adds features such as an electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential, AMG dynamic engine mounts, a high-performance composite braking system and the RACE START function.

The sedan is offered in Performance and Racing Edition variants and comes in six exterior colours: Polar White, Verde Silver, Obsidian Black, Nautical Blue, Velvet Brown and Graphite Grey metallic.

Inside, the cabin gets electrically adjustable AMG sports seats finished in ARTICO man-made leather and MICROCUT microfibre, AMG-specific MBUX displays, AMG TRACK PACE, hybrid-specific charging and range information, and a Burmester 4D surround sound system with 17 speakers, 730 watts of output and Dolby Atmos support. Other features include Digital Light headlamps, pull-out sun visors, rear sunblinds and an electric roller blind for the rear windscreen.

Speaking at the launch, Santosh Iyer, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, said the AMG E 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+ combines the performance credentials of the AMG brand with the practicality and efficiency of a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

"The E-Class has been one of the longest-running nameplates in the Indian automotive industry, and the AMG E 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+ underlines performance, practical usability and electric efficiency. The AMG E 53 Hybrid furthers our 'powertrain agnostic' strategy for India, where customers decide the powertrain of their choice, suiting their requirement," Iyer said.

Mercedes-Benz partners Indian Padel Tour for 2026-27 season

Alongside the launch, Mercedes-Benz India also announced a multi-year partnership with the Indian Padel Tour (IPT), becoming the title partner for the 2026-27 season. The company said the collaboration reflects the growing overlap between the AMG customer base and India's fast-expanding padel community.

The upcoming season will feature 19 tournaments across 10 cities, beginning in Mumbai in August 2026 and culminating in Bengaluru in June 2027. Mercedes-Benz customers will receive exclusive access to padel courts and events, while buyers of the AMG E 53 HYBRID will also get direct entry into an Indian Padel Tour Grand Slam.

The launch comes as Mercedes-Benz continues to strengthen its lineup across internal combustion, electric and AMG models in India. The luxury carmaker has maintained its leadership in the domestic luxury car market, supported by strong demand for top-end luxury vehicles, SUVs and battery-electric models, while also expanding its retail network and fast-charging infrastructure.

The Mercedes-AMG E 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+ is available in Performance and Racing Edition variants, priced at ₹1.45 crore and ₹1.48 crore (ex-showroom), respectively. Bookings are open across Mercedes-Benz dealerships nationwide, with deliveries set to begin immediately.
