Mitch McConnell Hospitalized for Undisclosed Medical Issue

Sen. Mitch McConnell has been hospitalized for an undisclosed medical issue, according to a spokesperson.

The 84-year-old was admitted to a hospital Sunday morning and “is receiving excellent care,” his office said.

It wasn’t immediately made public why he was taken to the hospital.

McConnell has suffered a series of health issues in recent years and was hospitalized for eight days in February for flu-like symptoms.

He was injured in a multiple falls in 2025 and left the public concerned when his face briefly froze while he was speaking to reporters in 2023.

McConnell is Kentucky’s longest-serving senator after being first elected to the Senate in 1984. He was also the longest-serving Senate leader, having held the position for 18 years before stepping down in 2024.

McConnell announced last year that he would not seek reelection. His term ends in January 2027.

“Thanks to Ronald Reagan’s determination, the work of strengthening American hard power was well underway when I arrived in the Senate,” McConnell said on the Senate floor when announcing his retirement.

He continued: “But since then, we’ve allowed that power to atrophy. And today, a dangerous world threatens to outpace the work of rebuilding it. So, lest any of our colleagues still doubt my intentions for the remainder of my term: I have some unfinished business to attend to.”

McConnell presided over a Senate Appropriations Defense subcommittee hearing on the Air Force Budget last week and he was in the chamber for an overnight vote-a-rama that began at 11 a.m. on June 4 and lasted until 5 a.m. the following day.
