The Cleveland Cavaliers star James Harden was taken into custody by the police in the Harris County Jail, but was released later the same morning on bond. It is to be noted that Harden is a 16-time NBA veteran and one of the league's most accomplished scorers, having spent nine seasons with the Houston Rockets and most recently played for the Cleveland Cavaliers. The arrest comes as a huge blow during the NBA offseason following Cleveland's playoff campaign. In this 2025-26 season, Harden has scored a point of 23.6 with a league rank of 17th, 8.0 assists per game, and 43.4% of field goal percentage, indicating Harden as an elite playmaker.

In a shocking incident, NBA star James Harden was arrested in Houston after police recovered a firearm from his vehicle on Saturday morning. As reported by the Houston Chronicle, Harden was driving a Mercedes sedan as part of a group of vehicles traveling through downtown Houston around 3:40 a.m. The officers on duty reportedly found a handgun in plain view inside the vehicle's cup holder during an interaction with the player. On asking, Harden allegedly acknowledged ownership of the weapon and was then taken into custody on a misdemeanor charge of unlawful carrying of a weapon in a motor vehicle. The 36-year-old was booked into the Harris County Jail but was released later the same morning on a $100 bond. The charge itself is a misdemeanor, and based on the summary of the case, it relates to the handgun not being properly holstered. However, the court records suggest that he is scheduled to appear in court on June 22. Further regarding the matter, the legal authorities have not released additional details regarding the incident. Neither Harden nor his representatives had publicly commented on the incident so far. The guard joined the Cavaliers recently, ahead of the 2026 NBA trade deadline. The Clevelands acquired him from the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for Darius Garland and a second-round pick. This season, Harden had a strong all-around offensive season, driven primarily by his scoring and top-tier playmaking ability. Despite having a player option for the 2026-2027 season, he is expected to remain with the Cavaliers this offseason.
