Pakistan Military Denies Reports of Imran Khan's Death

Imran Khan has remained largely out of public view since his imprisonment in August 2023.

Pakistan’s military has denied reports suggesting jailed former prime minister Imran Khan has died, journalist Wajahat Khan clarified in a video message. "For the first time In several months, the ISPR has broken its silence. It has called my reporting fake. I am glad that the ISPR has responded. Fake or whatever, because that means Imran is alive. We have forced them to respond after months of deafening, chilling, frustrating silence," Pakistani journalist Wajahat Khan clarified in a video.

The controversy began after journalist Khan claimed that three senior officers at Pakistan’s General Headquarters (GHQ) had expressed fears that Imran Khan may no longer be alive. However, he had stressed that the information was not independently verified and described it as apprehension rather than confirmed news.

Speaking of his sources, who had told him about Imran Khan's news, he said, "Let's be very clear. They did not confirm that Imran Khan is dead. Let me repeat. They did not confirm that Imran Khan is dead. Let's be unequivocally clear about that. What they confirmed is their own profound, paralyzing fear that the worst may have happened or is likely to happen, may have happened or is likely to happen. Why? Because the military currently is uncharacteristically, terrifyingly, and chillingly silent and tight-lipped."

The remarks came amid growing concerns over the 73-year-old former prime minister's health, with his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party demanding that his family members and personal doctors be allowed to meet him.
