Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov explained Russia's interpretation of the "spirit of Anchorage" in an interview with Vedomosti. This term refers to the atmosphere of trust between the Russian and US presidents that emerged during a past summit in Alaska.
MOSCOW, May 22. /TASS/. By "the spirit of Anchorage," Russia means the existing atmosphere of trust between the presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, which allowed to outline the basic parameters of Ukrainian reconciliation, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov told Vedomosti in an interview.
"By 'the spirit of Anchorage' - if you insist on this term - we imply the atmosphere of trust that emerged between the presidents of Russia and the US, which, in the context of last year’s Alaska summit, allowed to shape the basic contours of the Ukrainian peace process at the level of the two states’ governments. We, on our part, remain committed to it," the deputy minister said.
"Therefore it does not matter how they call it overseas. What really matters is that the governments of Russia and the United States remain determined to continue constructive work regarding Ukraine and also regarding the search for ways to repair mutually respectful bilateral cooperation between our countries," Ryabkov added.
