MOSCOW, August 13. /TASS/. Sales of new hybrid cars in Russia surged by 112% year-on-year in July 2026, reaching 14,100 units, Gazprombank Autoleasing told TASS.

Compared to June of this year, sales grew by 48%.

"In the second month of summer, 14,100 hybrid cars were sold (+112% year-on-year). <…> Moreover, the share of all plug-in electric vehicles jumped to 11.7% - up 6 percentage points year-on-year and nearly 3 percentage points month-on-month," the company said.

In July, the most popular models were the Geely EX5 hybrid crossover, with 2,600 units sold, followed by the Evolute I-Space (1,500 units), Voyah Free (767 units), Toyota Camry (697 units), and Exeed Exlantix ET (676 units). The top ten market leaders also included the GAC S7 (583 units), Audi Q5 (433 units), Zeekr 9X (397 units), Li Xiang L7 (313 units), and Umo 5 (304 units).

"The segment's massive growth was driven by a confluence of two factors. Amid fuel issues, buyers were looking for ways to maintain mobility while visiting gas stations less frequently. Hybrids, which often boast a driving range close to 1,000 kilometers, proved to be just what the market needed," Alexander Kornev, Head of Importer Relations at Gazprombank Autoleasing, explained.

However, according to the expert, the hybrid segment's most active growth phase is likely over. "August is already showing that fuel issues have eased. Furthermore, the customer base for vehicles priced between 5 million and 10 million rubles is substantially limited, and distributors are in no hurry to import new models in the range of 2-3 million rubles ($23,864-35,797). In light of this, monthly hybrid sales could soon drop below 10,000 transactions again," he added.
