Pourquoi c'est important

Six Flags Great Adventure is constructing a new, record-breaking roller coaster set to open next year. The project is named after and partnered with Project Purple, a nonprofit dedicated to fighting pancreatic cancer.

Six Flags plans to bring a record-breaking roller coaster to one of its famous parks, with construction already underway.

The amusement park company announced ahead of this year’s season that crews have begun to build the yet-to-be-named coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey.

Crews were photographed assembling a purple beam onto short concrete pillars.

Six Flags Great Adventure teased potential parkgoers on Facebook on Tuesday with a photo of a massive crane shooting into the sky.

“Ahem. Nothing to see here,” park officials sarcastically wrote in the post.

While Six Flags is keeping the coaster under wraps, there are a few things we do know.

The ride will open next year and will be “one of the most ambitious projects in park history,” the company said in a press release.

It will be one of the tallest coasters in the world, Six Flags promises, with a “record-breaking multi-launch experience that will redefine the park’s skyline.”

But the ride will be more meaningful than just thrilling guests for a fun day at the park.

Six Flags Great Adventure has teamed up with Project Purple, a nonprofit dedicated to fighting pancreatic cancer. The company named the coaster project after the organization and has made other moves to support its cause.

Six Flags Great Adventure and Project Purple are creating fundraising initiatives and other opportunities to support pancreatic cancer patients and their loved ones until June 1, 2027.

“This partnership is especially meaningful to me personally, having lost my father to pancreatic cancer,” Mike Fehnel, park president of Six Flags Great Adventure, said in the press release.

“As Project Purple rises on our skyline, we have an opportunity to raise awareness, inspire support and create a meaningful connection between unforgettable experiences and real impact,” Fehnel said.

The coaster is being built along Six Flags Great Adventure’s newly transformed Shorline Pier at The Boardwalk.

“This reimagined land blends the timeless nostalgia and charm of a perfect summer day at the Jersey Shore,” Six Flags Great Adventure writes on its website about the remodeled area.

The coaster is part of major changes at the park in recent years. In 2024, Six Flags Great Adventure announced it would retire its Kingda Ka and Green Lantern rides to make way for a “multi-record-breaking launch coaster."

"We understand that saying goodbye to beloved rides can be difficult, and we appreciate our guests' passion,” Brian Bacica, Six Flags Great Adventure president at the time, said in a statement.

“These changes are an important part of our growth and dedication to delivering exceptional new experiences," Bacica said.

Faithless TV Reboot: A Cruel Adultery Fable Recalled

Liv Ullmann's 2000 film "Faithless," based on Ingmar Bergman's work, gets a TV reboot by Sara Johnsen and Tomas Alfredson. Set in 1977 Stockholm, it explores an affair between Marianne and David, with a parallel present-day timeline featuring an older Marianne and director David. The series aims to give Marianne more agency than the film, though early episodes struggle with character depth and tepid chemistry.
