4일 한국은행에 따르면, 5월 말 기준 우리나라 외환보유액은 4천269억9천만달러(약 649조원)로, 4월 말보다 8억8천만달러 감소했다.
지난 4월 한 달 동안 42억2천만달러 증가했다가 감소세로 전환했다.
한은 관계자는 "국민연금과의 외환스와프 등 시장 안정화 조치에 주로 기인해 감소했다"고 설명했다.
자산별로는 유가증권(3천806억8천만달러)이 33억9천만달러, 특별인출권(SDR·157억8천만달러)이 3천만달러 각각 줄었다.
반면, 예치금(213억5천만달러)는 25억9천만달러 늘었다. 금은 매입 당시 가격으로 표시하기 때문에 47억9천만달러를 유지했다.
한국의 외환보유액 규모는 4월 말 기준 4천279억달러로, 전월과 같은 세계 12위 수준이다.
