Victorian Nationals MP Tim Bull to retire after 16 years

Nationals MP Tim Bull has announced he will not contest the Victorian election in November.

Mr Bull has represented the Gippsland East electorate for 16 years.

Victorian Nationals MP Tim Bull has announced that he will step down in November at this year's state election.

Mr Bull has held the rural seat of Gippsland East in Victoria's far east since 2010, when he defeated independent MP Craig Ingram with a 20 per cent swing.

Before entering politics, Mr Bull worked as a journalist.

He briefly served as minister for local government and Aboriginal affairs in the Napthine Coalition government.

"It has been an incredible honour, and a significant chapter of my life, to represent the people of this region over the past 16 years, including 13 years serving on the front bench as a Minister and Shadow Minister," Mr Bull said.

"Over the coming months leading up to the election, I will continue to represent the people of East Gippsland to the very best of my ability."

The largely rural seat of Gippsland East covers more than 27,500 square kilometres in Victoria's far east and is centred on the regional hub of Bairnsdale.

Mr Bull held the seat with a massive two-candidate preferred vote of 73.92 per cent at the 2022 Victorian election.

A preselection will be held to determine his replacement.
