Iraq's National Security Service announced it foiled an assassination plot targeting its chief, Abdul Karim Al-Basri, allegedly orchestrated by a cell linked to Jamal Mustafa, former President Saddam Hussein's son-in-law. The announcement coincides with the 12th anniversary of ISIS's rise, prompting speculation about political motivations. Separately, the agency reported killing two major drug traffickers in Maysan province.
