A suspicious fire has claimed the life of a 38-year-old man and left two others with life-threatening injuries on the Gold Coast. Police allege the fire was deliberately set at a Hope Island home around 11:45 PM, with a crime scene now established.

The father, Anand Doddamani, allegedly poured petrol on his son Mallikarjun during an argument. Neighbours cooking nearby caused the fire to spread, engulfing both father and son. Mallikarjun suffered 40% burn injuries while Anand sustained 18% burns. Police have registered a case of attempt to murder based on the mother's complaint.
A 21-year-old woman from Uttar Pradesh, Kashish Meena, died at Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital on Friday after being set on fire by her lover Ashish Meena's family on April 25. The victim had 90% burn injuries and battled for life for a week. The incident occurred after Ashish informed Kashish of his decision to get engaged elsewhere, leading to a heated argument during which his family allegedly poured petrol on her. Ashish has been arrested, and police have suspended four officers for failing to act promptly.
