Thousands Evacuated in Colombes as WWII Bomb Safely Defused in Northern Paris Suburb
Thousands of residents in Colombes, a northern suburb of Paris, were evacuated on Sunday as bomb disposal experts safely detonated a World War Two bomb discovered during construction work last month. The 1,000lb device was found on Rue des Champarons on April 10 and rendered safe in a controlled explosion at 15:20, with authorities lifting the evacuation order shortly after 16:00. Nearly 800 police officers were deployed to enforce the 450m exclusion zone, while a second 1km zone allowed residents to remain indoors. The operation marks another in a series of WWII bomb discoveries across Europe, including dozens found in London in recent years.
