Lufthansa Cancels 20,000 Short-Haul Routes Amid Fuel Cost Surge
Lufthansa announced Tuesday it is canceling 20,000 short-haul routes through October to save more than 40,000 metric tons of jet fuel, citing fuel costs that have doubled since the Iran conflict outbreak. The cuts affect hubs in Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, Vienna, Brussels and Rome, following last week's decision to retire CityLine's 27-aircraft fleet early. The first 120 flights were canceled Monday, with full route revisions due in late April or early May.
