88-Year-Old Retired Grocer to Become Oldest Runner in London Marathon
Harry Newton, an 88-year-old retired grocer from Macclesfield, will become the oldest athlete in this Sunday's London Marathon. Newton only started running at age 57 after attending a meeting about the event in the Lake District, and has since completed 31 marathons, including 21 London races. His personal best of 3 hours, 52 minutes and 30 seconds was set when he was 70. He also ran 461 laps around his garden during lockdown.
