British Israeli Academic Detained by Police Over Kippah with Palestinian Flag
A British Israeli academic and novelist has been detained by Israeli police in Modiin for wearing a kippah embroidered with Israeli and Palestinian flags. Alex Sinclair, 53, was taken from a cafe, locked in a cell and had his kippah confiscated. When returned, the Palestinian flag had been cut off. Police said a complaint has been filed with their internal investigations division. Sinclair, who has worn the kippah for 20 years, described it as a symbol of his Jewish-Zionist identity supporting both Israeli and Palestinian rights.
