Two Green Party Candidates Arrested for Alleged Antisemitic Social Media Posts in London Council Elections
Two Green party candidates running for Lambeth council in south London have been arrested on suspicion of stirring up racial hatred online. Saiqa Ali, 57, and Sabine Mairey, 54, were detained by the Metropolitan Police following an investigation into alleged antisemitic social media posts. Ali is accused of posting an image of an armed Hamas militant with the slogan 'Resistance is freedom', while Mairey allegedly shared a post stating 'Ramming a synagogue isn't antisemitism. It's revenge'. The arrests follow concerns reported to police on 21 April. Lambeth is a key target for the Greens in the upcoming local elections.
