Rainforest Resources Extraction Pushing Biomes to Breaking Point, Report Warns

A new report highlights that increasing extraction of rainforest resources for minerals, biofuels, and pulp is pushing biomes like the Amazon towards a breaking point. Compounding pressures from cattle ranching, agriculture, and logging are exacerbated by mining's extensive environmental footprint, including pollution and infrastructure development. The analysis by Profundo, commissioned by Rainforest Foundation Norway, urges a reduction in consumption from forest regions.

Nine dollars for a Starbucks is an ‘affordable luxury’? CEOs need to wake up and smell the coffee | Arwa Mahdawi

The head honcho thinks splurging nearly $10 on a beverage during a cost-of-living crisis is fine for a ‘special experience’. It’s time to offer my own valuable adviceI don’t mean to vent, but what is up with Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol’s obscenely large compensation package? Niccol, who joined the company in 2024, is one of the best-paid executives in the US, raking in $96m (£70m) in just his first four months on the job. The man makes 6,666 times more than the company’s typical employee, according to a 2025 Executive Paywatch report. He also regularly commutes to work via private jet. Can’t expect a strategic genius to live next to the office like the rest of the hoi polloi.Still, while he might be good at flogging drinks, Niccol apparently has trouble reading a room. As the cost of living surges, and the federal minimum wage remains at $7.25, the CEO is getting roasted for calling a $9 coffee “a really affordable premium experience”. Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, Niccol noted that the K-shaped economy, in which higher-income households are thriving and splurging while the bottom half struggles, isn’t really affecting business. Could a prolonged conflict between the US and Iran threaten another vital link?

The world’s eyes have been fixed on the oil tankers clogging the Strait of Hormuz. But the US-Israel war on Iran has exposed a quieter vulnerability: the undersea cables that form the digital backbone of the Middle East. Last week, a media outlet affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps highlighted that the strait functioned not only as a crucial chokepoint for oil and gas shipments but also as an essential corridor for internet communications. The outlet warned that damage to...

DJI Osmo Pocket 4 Review: The Best Gets Better, But Not in the US

DJI's Osmo Pocket 4 is an evolutionary upgrade over the Pocket 3 featuring a new 1-inch sensor with 37MP stills, 4K video at 4x zoom, 240fps slow motion, 107GB internal storage, and improved battery life. However, it's the first Osmo Pocket not to launch in the US due to pending authorization. At $560, it's a meaningful upgrade for new buyers but offers little reason for Pocket 3 owners to upgrade.

Twitch Streamer Marlon vs Jake Paul: Football Tournament Social Media Feud Escalates

A social media feud has erupted between Twitch streamer Marlon Lundgren Garcia (Marlon3lg) and boxing star Jake Paul after Marlon's livestream from the Celsius Football Tournament captured Paul’s fiancée Jutta Leerdam criticizing excessive vlogging during the event. Marlon responded by stating he’s also an Olympic gold medalist, prompting Jake Paul to defend his girlfriend on X, calling her a "real person that doesn't give a flying f**k about your stream." Marlon has since fired back, questioning Paul's relevance and accusing him of unnecessary ego-driven escalation.
