Philippine Military Kills at Least 10 NPA Rebels in Negros Firefights
Philippine military forces killed at least 10 New People's Army rebels, including local leader Roger Fabillar, during six firefights in Toboso municipality on Negros island Sunday. The military estimates the rebel group has fewer than 2,000 armed members remaining in what is one of the world's longest-running communist insurgencies. More than 300 residents fled their homes as gunfire erupted in the remote sugarcane-farming region.
